Natural Colored Linen Shirt with Patch Pockets

Made a few new things for wearing in the studio and lounging around in under the trees. The patterns used are the Nino Open Jacket and Nola Striped Gathered Blouse from Fabrics-Store.com.

The jacket is a basic short kimono style. Inspired by a traditional Japanese shop worker’s jacket, I chose a dark blue linen reminiscent of dark natural indigo dye. Easy to move in, with three-quarter sleeves, and with deep pockets, this is a good work jacket. I made one change to the pattern: finishing the raw edges of the pockets rather than top-stitch them at the hem.

The blouse is a basic long-sleeved top with a dropped shoulder and a gathered front and back bodice. This one makes a good artist’s smock. Inspired by vintage French farmer’s shirts and school teacher’s smocks, I modified the blouse pattern by using a solid undyed linen instead of a striped fabric and added patch pockets to the front.
